Which software scores sales calls against your own scorecard?
Several tools do, including Gong, Avoma, Claap and Callyst. They differ in who writes the criteria, what an answer can be, and how a call's overall score is worked out.
Callyst starts from the checklist your team already uses. You send it as a file or paste it in. Callyst drafts a scorecard from it, you read the draft, and the calls you upload are scored against it. Your items, your wording.
What does "your own scorecard" mean?
Three levels get called by the same name:
- Pick a template. The tool ships a sales scorecard and you use it as it is.
- Edit a template. You start from a template (for example MEDDIC) and change it.
- Write your own. You decide the items, the wording and the answers.
Callyst is built for the third. If you skip it, Callyst uses its standard sales scorecard, so you can start either way.
How do other tools describe their own-scorecard features?
Each row below comes from the vendor's own pages, read on 26 October 2026. Where a page shows a date, we show it.
| Tool | Writing your own criteria, as its own pages describe it |
|---|---|
| Gong, updated 13 Sep 2026 | Build with AI, start from a template, or start from scratch. Question types are range (0 to 50), single-select, multi-select, yes/no and open-ended. Questions can be set to get an answer from AI, and calls can be reviewed automatically, updated 18 Mar 2026. |
| Avoma, as of 26 Oct 2026 | Its sales-scoring page offers pre-built templates or a custom scorecard with your own questions and weighted criteria. Its help page, as of 26 Oct 2026 describes the default AI templates as uneditable and says admins cannot create new AI scorecards themselves. Neither page shows a date and the two read differently, so ask Avoma which applies to your plan. |
| Claap, as of 26 Oct 2026 | You write each criterion as a prompt. A criterion can be a rating on your own scale (0 to 5) or a choice from a list you define, and Claap's guide, updated 15 Oct 2026 adds a yes or no. Templates (such as MEDDIC and SPICED) can be edited, and each role can have its own scorecard. |
| Callyst | Send your scorecard as a file, or turn a checklist into one. Each item is a score on one whole-number scale or a yes/no. Flags are your own, with a severity. |
What can a Callyst scorecard hold?
A Callyst scorecard is a list of items and your own flags, in your words.
- 1 to 20 items. Use as many as your checklist needs, up to 20. If your checklist is longer, the builder keeps the first 20 items and its notes say what was cut.
- A scale you choose. Scale items share one whole-number scale, for example 1 to 10.
- Scale or yes/no. Use a score for judgement items and a yes/no for a straight check.
- Inbound, outbound or both. An item can apply to all calls, to inbound calls only, or to outbound calls only. Callyst marks an item N/A when it doesn't apply to the call, and leaves N/A items out of the averages, so they never count against the rep.
- Your own flags, up to 12. Each flag has a severity: critical, high, medium or low. Each flag comes with the quote from the call that backs it, so a manager can see the moment. If that quote isn't in the transcript, the flag is dropped. Calls that hit one of your flags show up on the flags page the same day, as a separate list for a person to review.
- An overall score for each call, on the same scale, with a short written reason.
- Evidence. Item scores come with a quote from the call. Callyst checks each quote word for word against the transcript. If no quote checks out, the score shows without one.
Add your compliance checks to the scorecard and Callyst flags the calls that miss them, with the quote.
Here is a made-up scorecard to show the shape. It's an invented example, not output from a real call or a real customer.
| Item | Type | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Opened with their name and the reason for the call | Yes/no | All calls |
| Asked what the customer needs before describing the product | Scale, 1 to 10 | All calls |
| Gave the required disclosure before quoting a price | Yes/no, and a flag if missed | All calls |
| Asked for a booked next step | Yes/no | Outbound only |
| Handled the price objection | Scale, 1 to 10 | All calls |
How does the overall score work?
Each item is scored on its own. The overall score is judged for the whole call, against the guidance in your scorecard, so it looks at the call as a whole, rather than adding up a list. Read it next to the items: the items show where the call was strong and where to coach.
A flag is a separate list for a person to review. Raising a flag does not change the call's score. If you want a behaviour to show in the score too, add an item for it. In the sample report, a missed disclosure is flagged and the matching script item also scores low for the same line.
What if your checklist has points?
Many QA scorecards give each item points that add up to 100. Callyst uses your items and your wording; points aren't carried over. Here is how to bring a points-based checklist across:
- Give Callyst the checklist. It turns the items into a draft scorecard. Read the draft before you run it on calls, and check how each item came through.
- Make the must-haves visible. Put the must-haves in as yes/no items or as flags.
- Use the overall score as a read on the whole call. The items underneath show what to coach.
If you're starting from our free call scorecard template, its points are for scoring by hand. Callyst uses the items and the wording.
How do you get your scorecard into Callyst?
Add it on the free-check form. Send a scorecard file in Callyst's JSON format (up to 200 KB, 20 items and 12 flags at most; if the file doesn't fit, the form tells you what to fix before your free check starts), or give Callyst a checklist as a PDF, DOCX or TXT file (up to 2 MB) or up to 20,000 pasted characters. Callyst turns the checklist into a draft scorecard and shows it to you before you submit. If you send nothing, Callyst uses its standard sales scorecard.
Step by step: how to use your own scorecard in Callyst.
Want to see the draft first? The scorecard builder is free and needs no sign-up. Paste or upload your checklist and read the draft. If something is off, change the checklist and build again. When you're happy, "Run a free check with this scorecard" carries the draft to the free-check form.
The builder doesn't keep your checklist or the draft. If you go on to run a free check, only the scorecard is kept. The text of your checklist is sent to our AI model provider to write the draft, whether you use the builder or the free-check form. See our privacy policy. Your checklist only needs your criteria, so leave real customer names and phone numbers out of it.
How do I send my calls?
For the free check, upload your .wav or .mp3 files: up to 10 calls, 50 MB each. Your scored report arrives within 24 hours. You need a work email, each company gets one free check, and the free check doesn't commit you to buy. You confirm you have permission to share the calls: tick that box only if you have the right to record these calls and share them with Callyst, including any consent that call-recording laws require.
Callyst scores the real conversations. Voicemails, unanswered calls, duplicates, calls over 90 minutes and, by default, calls under 60 seconds are set aside. Audio is deleted 30 days after scoring, and no recording is kept longer than 35 days.
Need help exporting recordings first? See how to upload call recordings to Callyst.
Where does Callyst fit?
Callyst fits teams of any size that have a scorecard, or a checklist that could become one, and want the calls they upload scored against it. Your own items give the scores your coaching language. Calls that hit one of your flags show up the same day, with the quote, and reps get a coaching email every weekday morning.
To see how Callyst sits next to other tools, read our comparison with Gong, Avoma and Jiminny. Each vendor's own pages are the source for what they do.
How should you choose?
Whatever you pick, the best test is your own calls. Take ten recordings your managers have already reviewed and see whether the tool's scores and the evidence behind them match what your managers wrote. A few questions help you read any vendor's pages:
- Can I write my own items, or only edit a template? Who in my company can do it?
- What can an answer be: a scale, yes/no, a choice from a list, free text?
- What happens to an item that doesn't apply? Does it drop out of the score?
- Does every score show the part of the call it came from?
- How do my recordings get in, and how long is the audio kept? At Callyst, audio is deleted 30 days after scoring, and no recording is kept longer than 35 days.
Good to know: Callyst scores calls in English. It works from recordings, so it fits any phone system that can export them. Scores, flags and coaching notes are AI-generated and can be wrong. They are an aid, not a decision, so review them before acting, especially before any step that affects a person's job or pay.
